New Build – The Moorlands – Derbyshire
This design embraces a rural aesthetic, evoking the charm of an agricultural building. From the roadside, the house appears as a long barn with a low eave and dual-pitched slate roof. Stonework enhances its integration into the rural setting.
We have utilized the site’s sloping topography to step the property down into the hillside at the rear. Planting the lower floor into the hillside further reduces its visual impact on the local landscape. A sedum roof above this lower level breaks up the overall volume and adds to the pleasing view from the first-floor living space.
Upon entering the glazed barn door, you are greeted with an open space featuring a full vaulted ceiling. The lower pitch gradually falls away towards a skylight and a window at the end, offering a glimpse of the stunning views surrounding the property. A bridge in front of the window connects the living room and staircase, accessed through an open-plan kitchen/dining room. A glazed corner maximizes the key views beyond the sedum roof.
Descending the stairs from the bridge leads to the lower ground floor, which houses the bedrooms, en-suites, utility, and storage rooms. Further descent brings you to the underground garage, providing discreet parking for residents and additional storage space, including a gym with a W/C.
