M House, Derby
This 1960’s house was in need of an overhaul and the owners asked Simon Foote Architects to assess how best to open up the rear of the property and create a strong link to the south facing the garden. The proposal used exposes steelwork to support a cantilevered mono-pitch roof which both shades the large living/ dining area from the sun and also ensures the open aspect rooms have lots of direct daylight. The concept is very simple but we are very pleased with the finished result. The detailing of the exposed steel framework was critical to the success of the scheme.
