Hull ‘Living With Water’ RIBA Competition
Simon Foote Architects designed a landscape led scheme, as part of a RIBA competition, for Hull City Council to create a unique and distinctive urban neighbourhood balancing public space whilst achieving the development potential of a site that is at high risk of flooding.
The feasibility study incorporates areas specifically designed to flood using SUDS system including swales, to store and stem water . An elevated pedestrian route provides pedestrian and cycle access through the site. An enhanced biodiversity strategy to include water plants, supporting native and migrating wildlife has also been incorporated.
The proposed development features a mix of houses and apartments with an iconic, flagship high-rise waterfront apartment building. This defines the site and the design allows below plinth level parking to be utilised.
